The Trump administration is preparing an estimated $2.8 billion munitions sale to Israel, according to Reuters and The Washington Post. The package would reportedly include 40,000 2,000-pound bombs—20,000 MK-84s and 20,000 BLU-117s—as well as 20,000 I-2000 penetrator warheads designed for hardened targets.
The Washington Post reported that the proposed sale has been informally notified to congressional committees. An administration official said arms sales are moving through the appropriate process but declined to comment specifically on a pending transaction.
The package would be among the largest transfers of this type of munition to Israel in recent years. It may generate debate in Congress because of humanitarian concerns surrounding the use of heavy bombs in densely populated areas.
No detailed public announcement has yet been issued by the State Department or the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. The delivery schedule and intended use also remain unclear.
